Basically, it was an empty shed, and the Salisbury Council wanted someone to turn it into a Function Centre-slash-restaurant-slash-cafe. Red Jam was up for the challenge for two reasons: The location is fantastic – the wetland birdlife is amazing; and the Salisbury Council is a pleasure to work with – progressive, innovative and very accommodating.
Working with the council, it took 18 months to make the vision a reality. The ‘shed’ was completely decked out (literally and figuratively) – we created the decor, put in furniture and a new kitchen, prepared the menus, hired the staff, and gave the place a relaxing feel, sensitive to its pristine surrounds. The council came to the party by providing the outdoor decking and car parking facilities.
Now, the Watershed is the must-go venue in Mawson Lakes, and, as a place to eat (or hold a function) rivals just about anywhere else in Adelaide.
